The road bike helmet: aerodynamic and light

A road bike helmet is essential to ensure your protection in the event of a fall. Its shape is aerodynamic and should cover the entire head well, starting from the forehead and ideally up to the neck to protect your spine. For safe and effective protection it must comply with European standard CE EN 1078, which is written inside. Several elements contribute to comfort on a road bike helmet: lightness, the ventilation system (holes allow ventilation of the skull during exercise) and the helmet adjustment system, most often with a dial on the back. Foams on the inside of the helmet help to adjust the size properly and provide comfort.

Bike helmet: our advice

It is important to know your head size well to find a suitable road helmet. Reflective details will give you maximum safety, you will be seen in all weather and at night.

It is recommended that you change your helmet every 5 years, or even faster if you use it often.

If you fall it is important to change your helmet, even if the impact was not severe, it may be cracked from the inside, then you are no longer adequately protected.

The price of your road helmet will vary depending on the materials chosen for its manufacture: PVC, polycarbonate or ABS for the outer shell with the possibility of a carbon reinforcement. Aramid, nylon, kevlar or carbon frame for the internal shell.
