Poc is proud to announce the launch of its latest road helmet: the Cytal Carbon.
Developed to become the new standard in high-performance helmets, the Cytal Carbon pioneers a new approach to safety, aerodynamics and ventilation thanks to its hand-made carbon fin integrated into the structure.
Oscar Huss, Poc Product Manager: "With the Cytal Carbon, we asked ourselves how we could use our expertise in the design and manufacture of high-performance helmets to go even further in terms of safety, aerodynamics and cooling. The idea was to have even more ventilation while reducing friction points for better sporting performance. By rethinking our manufacturing processes and searching for the most efficient materials and designs, we found the answer by creating this carbon fin handcrafted in Italy. And the results are extremely positive."
- Ventilation : like all Poc road Helmets, the Cytal Carbon uses the Venturi effect, which ensures highly efficient airflow. The carbon fin, inspired by motorsports, is shaped to enhance this airflow, creating an unprecedented level of ventilation and cooling across the entire skull. The carbon fin has a variable shape to increase airflow speed and improve cooling. The result is Poc's most ventilated road helmet to date. Tested in wind tunnels and with CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software, the design of the carbon fin and its rigidity increase the flow of air entering the front, allowing this air to circulate freely inside the Helmet. Combined with linear channels, it is then directed rapidly towards the rear of the Cytal Carbon to maximize flow velocity and cooling of the rider's head.
- Aerodynamics : The Cytal Carbon has undergone intensive testing in wind tunnels and CFD software, followed by field tests with the Education First - Easypost professional team. The aerodynamic performance of this Helmet goes beyond that of current helmets, especially at high speeds. The integration of the carbon spoiler ensures better air penetration, greatly reducing friction points and improving airflow from front to back. The size and angles of each vent guide air through the helmet instead of around it, greatly reducing pressure on the front of the helmet. This optimized design reduces turbulence and maintains a linear airflow through the helmet, improving aerodynamics.
- Safety : All Poc Helmets are designed with safety in mind. Regular certification testing for the Cytal Carbon is a fundamental prerequisite, but this helmet has been pre-tested by Poc engineers through their Finite Element Method (FEM) research to use the best materials and manufacturing processes. These tests are carried out to provide the best possible response to the different variables involved in safety in the event of a fall, and to ensure that the final product meets our internal standards. This process validated the use of the carbon fin which, using a Koridion core embedded in the carbon sheets and then molded into the helmet's EPS, reinforces the helmet's structural integrity.
The Poc Whole Helmet Concept ensures that the Helmet is more than the sum of its parts. The design, the quality of the materials used, the molded construction, the optimized EPS densities, the ergonomic straps, the Eye Garage goggle slot, and the headband adjustment system guarantee top-level comfort, performance and safety. This combination of features also enables Cytal Carbon to achieve a maximum rating of 5 out of 5 stars from the independent Virginia Tech test laboratory.
The Cytal Carbon is now available to all performance-oriented cyclists. The Education First - Easypost team was actively involved in the development and testing of this helmet, as Adreas Klier, the team's performance manager, explains: "We are aware of the importance of aerodynamics in racing, as well as the importance of ventilation and cooling for the rider. Having a Helmet that excels on all three counts is a considerable advantage in competition. We spend a lot of time with Poc engineers to improve every product detail, and we're greatly pleased with the results."
