Description:
The best modern trail bikes are used on an impressive variety of terrain and must therefore be able to adapt to it. With its more aggressive geometry, Fox 36 fork and 150 mm of travel, theOrbea Occam LT, the wild cousin of the Occam, offers optimum performance. The robust Fox 36 Fork reduces the steering angle of the Occam LT by 0.5º, for an even more stable position.
Instead of using a less efficient "shock tunnel", the Occam shifts the shock to the left side of the frame, allowing the right mount to be more central and more effectively manage the suspension forces acting on the front triangle. This solution makes it possible to adjust the stiffness of this highly stressed area without adding unnecessary weight.
Orbea uses aluminum manufacturing technologies and materials that are just as advanced as their carbon processes. High-quality aluminum tubes are subjected to processes designed to align the grain structure before undergoing an advanced hydroforming process allowing precise control of wall shape and thickness. These processes increase strength and refine rigidity while optimizing frame weight. Many tubes are double- or triple-thickness, saving weight in areas away from joint stresses and welding zones. The use of aluminum technologies as advanced as those employed by Orbea with carbon ensures that their aluminum bikes are never second-rate.
The biggest news for the alloy is the addition of new polished-finish welds on hydroformed frames. Every weld on the main frame is polished and smoothed. While the end result resembles the aesthetics of a monocoque frame, the polishing primarily increases fatigue strength in these high-stress areas. Polishing requires hours of hand work and bead blasting. Only the most exclusive Orbea frames are made in this way.
