I bought a set of Black Diamond trekking poles a year ago because I was dealing with back problems that made walking difficult. I don’t want to use a cane because they make me look “old.” The poles fold into luggage and a tote bag so I can use them as needed while traveling. I need the tips for walking indoors. They work well. Back surgery is coming up, and I hope to be back on the trails by year’s end. I’ll still need the great poles. BTW, I live in Missoula, Montana, and many of use trekking poles rather than a cane because we refuse to give up.

I work my z-poles pretty hard; Malta trails, Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage, West Highland Way and Kerry Camino (part of Dingle Way) in the past year. My tips needed replacing after all that work. This time around I realized that the rubber tip protectors would be a real benefit for the easy parts of trails to reduce wear on the rubber tips and provide a softer impact with little noise. The protectors slip off easily when the trail requires the more aggressive bite of the rubber tips.

I own two (2) Black Diamond hiking/walking sticks with metal tips - fine for hiking but now I need the walking sticks to help me balance due to an unstable knee (surgery coming up).
