The North Face Future Light
Future Light
The North Face's Future Light technology is a revolution in outdoor gear. It is a waterproof membrane that is permeable to air so that you are protected from the elements (rain, snow, fog etc.) without compromising the breathability of your equipment (a major factor after several hours of effort). This new membrane, tested by numerous The North Face athletes in extreme expedition conditions, offers unprecedented lightness and flexibility. The Future Light technology applies to The North Face range of footwear and clothing.
What is Future Light technology
If waterproofness, air permeability and flexibility are concepts that many people are familiar with, the combination of these three characteristics in one technology is quite new. The North Face has achieved this after several years of research and by developing a nanofibre structure that allows air to circulate but prevents water from passing through. The Future Light fabric was tested by an independent laboratory, Underwritten Labs, before being put to the test in the mountains.
Waterproof
The structure of the fabric is such (the fibres are nano-sized) that water does not penetrate the fabric. You are therefore protected from the weather and external moisture. So you can go exploring without worrying.
Air permeability
This is an often neglected concept, but the performance of your outdoor equipment owes a lot to it. Indeed, if the air cannot circulate freely, with the effort, moisture accumulates between your skin and the clothing (or shoe) and a situation of discomfort (steam) sets in.
Lightweight and flexible
Mountaineer, trail-runner, hiker, today the quest is for lightness and versatility. A supple and ultra-fine fabric will allow you to have light equipment but whose performance will be equal to your desire to discover.
