How to adjust your MTB rear shocks ?
As with the fork, a well-tuned Fox, RockShox etc. MTB shock absorber will not only provide comfort but also perfect grip when pedalling, descending or braking.
Tools: High Pressure Pump / Small ruler
Step 1
Deflate the air in the shock absorber completely.
Step 2
Fully compress the damper so that the collar moves downwards on the plunger.
Step 3
Re-inflate the damper to its original position, leaving the seal in its lower position.
Step 4
Measure the total depression between the seal and the damper body.
Step 5
Refit the seal to the shock absorber body.
Step 6
Slowly get on the bike (in full gear) in order to push in the suspension.
Step 7
Measure suspension SAG using the joint displacement. The ideal SAG** is 15-25% deflection for XC, and 30-35% for freeride.
Step 8
Adjust the compression and rebound according to your wishes and the characteristics of the shock. On an helicoidal shock, the compression is adjusted with the large knob that compresses the spring more or less.
