How to adjust a rear derailleur?
There is nothing worse than a jumpy rear derailleur. Adjust your MTB or Road rear derailleur in few steps for a smooth shifting.
Typical tools: 5mm Hex Wrench / Screwdriver.
Step 1
Shift chain to outermost rear sprocket (smallest) and outermost chainring (largest). Loosen inner wire pinch bolt and turn barrel adjuster clockwise.
Step 3
Pull the cable tight and tighten inner wire pinch bolt. Shift your rear derailleur into the 2nd sprocket.
Step 5
Adjust the index: shift chain into the 4th or 5th sprocket. Turn barrel adjuster so that the derailleur pulley lines up underneath the correct cog. Do some shifts to make sure it is adjusted properly.
