What is a multiband GPS?
Multiband GPS allows the watch to communicate with satellites in several frequency bands, such as the E1, E5a and E5b bands of the Galileo system (the European GPS system). By reducing interference and minimising signal errors, this type of GPS improves accuracy. For example, if a satellite sends a signal indicating a distance of 23,222 km on one frequency and 23,222.2 km on another, multi-band GPS will favour the shorter distance, considering that the longer distance is probably being deflected by obstacles or disturbances between you and the satellite. This type of correction is particularly valuable in complex environments, such as dense urban areas or forests.
On average, a multiband GPS offers an accuracy of around two metres, which is considerably more precise than a standard GPS. This accuracy becomes essential for outdoor activities where every metre counts, such as trail running in the mountains or hiking in places where the GPS signal can be disrupted.
