How to maintain a MTB fork?
Ideal for maintaining a good seal and optimal operation of the fork, This fairly simple operation requires a minimum of attention and equipment.
1/ Required tools
Ratchet spanner + socket 24 mm / Socket spanner 10 mm / BTR spanner 5 mm / Flat spanner 15 mm / Handle seals / Syringe / Suitable oil.
2/ Unscrew the cartridge
Empty the air chamber of the fork, then unscrew the cartridge with a ratchet and a 24 mm hexagon socket.
3/ Remove the cartridge
Remove the cartridge from the plunger and empty the used oil into a container.
4/ Unscrew the bottom part
Unscrew the lower part of the plunger fork/lugs using a 10 mm Allen key and a 5 mm spanner.
5/ Take the plungers out
Remove the plungers from the sheaths.
6/Remove the seals
Then remove the used wiper seals and foam seals with a 15 mm spanner./p>
7/ Lubricate the seals
Pour a little fork oil into a container and soak the new foam seals in oil. Then reposition them with the wiper seals on the plungers.
8/ Replace the seals
Replace the seals in position, using the tool provided, so as not to damage them.
9/ Clean the plungers
Clean the plungers and the inside of the sleeves with a degreaser.
10/ Re-inflate the shock absorber
Then fill the oil cartridge and the lower part with the quantity and viscosity recommended by the manufacturer.
