Measure wear and replace your chain
The chain is one of the key parts of a bike. A worn chain can quickly undermine all transmission. Regular inspection and maintenance will avoid this problem as unpleasant as it is expensive... Here is how to measure and replace your Road and MTB chain.
1/ Measure
Measure the chain wear. If the wear indicator returns to the "0.75" position, only the chain must be replaced. If the tool returns to the "1.0" position, the chain and the cogset must be changed.
2/ Quick fastener opening
Opening of the chain if there is a quick fastener. Disassemble the quick fastener by moving the axiss closer together with a pair of pliers.
3/ Tip
Tip: you can also use a universal spanner by taking the link diagonally (place the edges of the wrench on the part where the axis is conencted to the link).
6/ Measure
One of the techniques to select the right chain length is to mount the chain on the large sprocket of the cogset without going through the derailleurs then add 2 or 3 links.
9/ Inserting the chain axis
The closure rivet consists of a guide linked together with the chain axis. After positioning the rivet with the guide, place the axis using the chain derivative.
11/ Position of the breaking point
We intentionally inserted the rivet from the inside of the bicycle towards the outside; this way the mount generated by the breakage of the rivet is outside and does not rub on the top sprocket of the cogset.
