Continental was born in 1871 in HANNOVER in Germany under the name of "Continental-Rubber-und Guttta-Percha Company". The Hanover factory then manufactures soft rubber products, and already full bandages for trolleys and bicycles.
In 1892 Continental was the first German company to manufacture bicycle tyres, called "pneumatics".
In 1904 Continental was the first company in the world to create grooved tyres for cars.
In 1909, the aviator Louis Blériot was the first man to cross the English Channel by plane. The wings of this aircraft were covered by "Continental" materials.
In 1920, the company merged with major rubber companies and became Continental Fummi-Werke AG.
In 2015, Continental is the world's fourth largest tyre manufacturer after Michelin, Bridgestone and Goodyear and employs nearly 160,000 people worldwide.
Continental remembered that before 1900, it already produced rubber bullets and that in 1920 it manufactured tubes for leather balloons and sponsored since 1995 major football events including the European Cup and world Cup.
In the field of cycling, more than one hundred years of experience in the development and production of tyres and ongoing collaboration with riders and cyclists have given the company a well-deserved reputation. Continental sponsors many athletes in the world of mountain biking, road cycling and triathlon, teams like the BMC Racing Team, as well as sporting events like the FIFA World Cup and the Tour de France.
Its technology and development center in Korbach is constantly on the lookout for revolutionary new technologies and has developed the "black chili" composed of nano technologies, allowing a reduction of the rolling resistance and a better adhesion, an improvement of the performance and less rapid tyre wear. Continental has also introduced "Vectran" technology in the manufacture of its tyres, which makes them more resistant to cuts and punctures.
The brand produces tyres, hoses and pneumatic accessories (hose glue pots, inner tubes, rim flanges, valve extensions).
The Continental Grand Prix range has become a benchmark among road bike tyres offering lightness, strength and good performance (we find the GP 4000, GP 4000S and GP 4000S II). To meet all types of needs, Continental has developed the 4 Season range, very resistant for tough conditions and the GP Attack & Force for performance.
For mountain biking we retain the King range with the Mountain King for the Cross Country and downhill with good stability and the Speed King for speed, the Mud King on muddy terrain and the versatile X-King for mountain bike, road and the Cross Country.
The Ride range for versatile use, to use for trekking but also everyday.
The Der Kaiser range is that of high-end MTB tyres with a good grip for racing. Finally Continental has developed a range of specialized tyres for e-bikes, the Contact range, with flexible, reliable and lightweight tyres.
