Trek, a benchmark brand in the world of cycling

Trek Bicycle Corporation is an American company specialising in the manufacture of road and mountain bikes, bicycle components and bicycle clothing.

It markets its products under the Trek, Bontrager, Electra, Diamant and Bcycle brands. The head office is based in Waterloo, Wisconsin. The company began manufacturing steel frames in 1976 under the name Trek Bicycle, Trek evoking travel. The brand grew rapidly and went on to offer complete road and mountain bikes. In 1985, it launched its first aluminium frame, followed a year later by a carbon fibre frame. In 1988, it began manufacturing clothing for cyclists and began to expand abroad.

In 1992 Trek unveiled its first all-carbon road bike, followed by the mountain bike a year later.

Trek has a network of international professional road and mountain bike teams under the name Factory Racing. In mountain biking, Trek competes in World Cups in XC, DH and, for some years now, enduro. January 2016 saw the launch of the Trek Factory Downhill team, a partnership with a team of DH riders. Trek has also sponsored the American cycling team Team Leopard-Trek since 2014.

Trek Travel was founded in 2002 as a cycling tour operator offering cycling tours to enthusiasts all over the world.

Trek bike ranges

Since its creation, the Trek bicycle brand has been positioned at the top end of the market, with the aim of offering the best bicycles in the world. R&D (research and development) is important at Trek and the brand's bikes have always been equipped with the latest, most high-performance technologies. Take, for example, the launch of Trek's first carbon OCLV mountain bike frame in 1993. Since then, the brand's reputation has gone from strength to strength.

In recent years, Trek's flagship models have been the Madone for road use, the Superfly for mountain biking, and the Session for downhill riding.

As well as manufacturing its own bikes, Trek acquired one of the best mountain bike component brands, Bontrager, in the mid-90s, in order to gain control over the components used in its bikes. The brand's models are equipped with Bontrager components: wheels, stems, saddles, carbon hangers, tyres, bottle cages, etc.

Trek offers a range of road, touring, cyclo-cross, triathlon and children's bikes.

The mountain bike range focuses on trail, cross country and downhill bikes. The brand also offers fat bikes, electric bikes and children's bikes.

Trek also offers a range of city bikes, including multi-purpose models such as the FX in the Fitness range: a cross between a road bike and a city bike, and Dual Sport bikes for the city and the trails. Electric, leisure, trekking and children's bikes complete the range.

Trek, close to sustainable development

Trek Bikes has broadened its objectives over time: to make cycling accessible to as many people as possible.

The American brand has set up a number of initiatives, including eco-friendly packaging, inner tube recycling and an experimental non-profit foundation that enables young people in disadvantaged areas to learn how to repair bicycles of all makes.
