MTB Jockey Wheels, to rotate the chain

Jockey Wheels are small casters located on the clevis of the rear derailleur.

They are used to guide and tension your chain. Mountain Bike jockey wheels are exposed and can be damaged depending on the conditions (mud, sand, dust, etc.). It is therefore important to regularly check the MTB jockey wheels to ensure that the transmission is still functioning properly.

How to check and maintain your MTB jockey wheels?

To check the condition of your jockey wheel hubs, it's quite simple, it's the same technique as to check the condition of your MTB sprockets and chainrings. If the teeth are still sharp, you have nothing to worry about. If the teeth are worn and rounded, then the rollers need to be changed. However, with a little maintenance you can increase the life of your rollers: regular cleaning with a degreaser and lubrication will extend the life of your wheels. Attention there are different models of rollers: the number, the width and the shape of the teeth can vary.
