The MTB seat post, an essential device
Whether on the road bike, fixie or mountain bike, the seatpost is a peripheral much like the stem, handlebars or saddle.
The
MTB seat post allows the saddle to be fixed. This is the part that connects your saddle to your mountain bike frame via the seat tube. The stem holds thanks to a seat clamp.
It allows you to quickly and accurately adjust your position on your MTB. You can adjust the saddle height (more or less high), the recoil (more or less away from the cockpit) and the angle (more or less parallel to the ground).
Aluminium and carbon are the two most commonly used materials for MTB seat posts. Carbon develops more and more for its weight advantage, but aluminium is still very present on this type of device, especially for extreme practices.
Seat posts adapted to different practices
The seat posts vary according to the mountain bike practices, especially since the arrival of the
dropper seat post measuring either 30.9 mm or 31.6 mm. Indeed, in recent years this seat post system has developed and spread rapidly on disciplines such as Enduro or All-Mountain where it's necessary to change your seat height regularly and pay attention to the diameter in mm when the time comes to change it.
A very practical system that allows you to adjust your seat height while riding, from a setting on the handlebars.
For practices like cross-country, the classic system is still ubiquitous, especially in carbon version for a not negligible weight gain.
