The bicycle cogsets are located on the rear wheel and attached to the hub. They are made up of several pinions ranging from 1 to 12, each having an increasing number of teeth which drive the chain and make it possible to change the transmission ratio. They determine the number of speeds of the rear wheel. Bicycle cogsets are generally made of steel, and the most high-end ones are made of titanium, aluminium or magnesium. The road bike cogsets are smaller than the MTB cogsets: the smallest pinion has between 11 and 13 teeth and the largest between 21 and 32 teeth.
It's essential to choose the road bike cogsets according to your practice and the type of road you'll ride on to optimise development:
Be sure to often clean your bike cassette and lubricate it to avoid damaging the chain. When changing the chain, it's recommended to change the bicycle cassette too.
